Changyu Brandy Won Another Gold Medal at Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

A few days ago, the result of 2018 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles was officially announced, in which Changyu Premium Five-star Special Fine Brandy from Yantai, China won the gold medal! This is the second time for Changyu Brandy to win gold medal at Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles after Changyu Koya XO Brandy winning gold medal at 2015 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. It is reported that the award ceremony of 2018 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will be held in October at the White Swan Cafe in the Grand Place in Brussels downtown.

 


Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles was established in 1999 and organized by the Organizing Committee of Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB). The selection has been held in different cities outside Brussels since 2013, such as Guadalajara, Mexico in 2016, La Serena, Chile in 2017 and Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2018. According to reports, the selection of 2018 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles was held in Plovdiv from August 21 to 23, and the selecting subjects included more than 10 types of spirits involving brandy, whiskey, rum, vodka, grappa, pisco, gin, tequila and white spirit. There were 1,315 spirits from 54 countries and regions, and 78 spirits tasting experts from 26 countries and regions participating in the selection. They were divided into 13 teams and selected in a “blind taste” manner. After that, a comprehensive mathematical analysis of scores was made to ensure fairness.

 

Changyu Company is the first wine and brandy manufacturer in China. As early as in the Panama Pacific International Exposition (San Francisco Expo) held in 1915, the brandy exhibited by Changyu Company was awarded gold medal along with Red Rose Wine, Riesling White Wine and Gewurztraminer Vermouth, gaining the name of “Special Fine Brandy”. And the trademark of “Special Fine Brandy” was registered with the Trademark Office under the Department of Industry in the Government of the Republic of China in 1937 (with the authorized No. of 26405). The old advertisement of Changyu Brandy published on Shanghai Shenbao Newspaper showed that Changyu Company had already had the level concept with “three stars added to certify” as early as 1916. Afterwards, the level of Changyu Special Fine Brandy series was subdivided into three-star, four-star and five-star from low to high. According to reports, the current Changyu Premium Five-star Special Fine Brandy uses Ugni Blanc grapes as the main brewing material, adopting a variety of distillation methods to produce different flavors of brandy wine base. And then it is aged and stored in large, small, new and old barrels for five years to create a unique taste that is mellow, supple and full of profoundness.

 

From Changyu Koya XO Brandy winning the gold medal in 2015 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondialde Bruxelles to Changyu Premium Five-star Special Fine Brandy winning the gold medal in 2018 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondialde Bruxelles, it suffices to prove the exquisite winemaking process of Changyu Brandy which has a hundred years of inheriting history. Just as Olivier Paultes, the wine master of French cognac winemaking family, points out through analysis of aroma and taste, “Changyu Brandy totally has the strength to compete for any gold medal in international spirits competitions”.

 

It is known that Mrs. Zhang Baochun is the winemaker of Changyu Koya XO Brandy and Changyu Premium Five-star Special Fine Brandy which are awarded with honor the gold medal of Spirits Selection by Concours Mondialde Bruxelles successively. She is the winemaker of Changyu Brandy, with the title of “China’s Wine Master” (selected in 2011). She is the only “China’s Wine Master” in brandy type of wine up to now, and also recognized in the industry as the inheritor of Chinese brandy winemaking technology. Zhang Baochun once said: “To make a good wine, it needs to accumulate the efforts of generations to make it perfect.”

 

According to statistics from China Alcoholic Drinks Association, in the entire domestic brandy market, Changyu Brandy has occupied an average market share of 97.76% in the past five years. At present, Changyu Brandy’s mainstream products include Koya series (XO and VSOP) for the wealthy, Five-star series (Premium Five-star and New Five-star) for middle class and Mminni series for young people. According to the international development strategy of Changyu Company, brandy will form a “situation of tripartite confrontation” pattern with domestic wines and imported wines.

 

The advertisement slogan of Changyu Premium Five-star Special Fine Brandy is “a taste for forty”. It has two meanings: one is that the alcohol content of brandy reaches 40% Vol, and the other is that the target consumer group is the backbone of society who has grown up in the 40 years of reform and opening up.
